While attending an LGBT-affirming Spirit-Filled conference in Maryville, Tennessee, in February 2012, Mike Whited heard again the call of God to pastor.
After a span of 10 years since leaving the senior pastorate Mike heard God say, “It’s time for you to represent me before a congregation again.” In the summer of 2012 during the Immersed Conference at New Covenant Church of Atlanta the confirmation of that call was affirmed again and again.
After much prayer, he and his partner Dan have followed the voice of God to begin a LGBT and S affirming ministry based in the Charlotte area. Under the covering of New Covenant Church of Atlanta, they are excited to present New Covenant Ministries of Charlotte.
Mike was raised in the Southern Baptist tradition in Nashville, Tennessee and in his early 20ʼs began pursuit of a Spirit-filled life. He was educated in the Charismatic, Word, Faith movement and subsequently entered ministry full-time as a praise and worship leader then as associate pastor. In 1990, during a week of prayer and fasting Mike received the call of God and for the next 12 years would serve as senior pastor. In the year 2002 it all came to a halt when he realized he could no longer deny his sexuality. Mike would then lay down his role as pastor until called again during Praise and Worship at the conference in Maryville.
Mike and Dan began a committed relationship in 2010. Building their relationship with Christ as the center has strengthened them and enabled a time of healing and restoration with Mikeʼs four children. It has also provided a solid base from which to
reach out to a people rejected and marginalized by “mainstream” religion.
They are excited to carry the message of “whosoever will may come” to the Charlotte and surrounding areas and the online community. Mike now travels among several Covenant Network churches and in the southeast.
